Danish Paper Hearts
Mrs. McNamara's class was lucky to have special guests this week in art. My oldest son and his wife, who is Danish, came to our class. The class learned about Danish culture, and how schools differ in Denmark. The students were fascinated to learn that Danish students have much more recess, and can play in the woods and ride bikes during school recess. Both Isaac and Cecilia answered many questions.
They also learned how to make a Danish woven paper heart, which all students do at Christmas time in Denmark They use red and white paper to make these which are Danish flag colors.
We chose our own colors and all the students completed at least one heart-this was no easy feat. It is much more difficult than it looks! I was proud of them for sticking with it, and we will practice again just to make sure they can do it on their own.
